Which one fits your trip
Pick Osaka if...
- You're already going to be in Kansai (Osaka, Kyoto, Nara) for a few days.
- You want the best odds of getting a reservation. Weekdays in particular have last-minute openings up to the day before.
- Your dates fall between 8 - 16 June 2026 you should pick a different week or pick Tokyo - Osaka is closed for a short menu update that period.
Pick Tokyo if...
- You're already going to be in Tokyo (most travellers' default).
- You specifically want to see the renovated Nihonbashi space, which reopens 17 June 2026.
- You can either be online at 18:00 JST on the day your target date opens, or you have a booking helper running for you. The first 3 weeks (17 June - 7 July 2026) were released in a single wave on 17 May 2026 and the popular slots went in roughly 30 seconds.
Pick BOTH if...
- You're doing the classic Tokyo + Osaka trip across 7+ days. Each cafe has different menu items and different interiors. Many travellers find the experience worth the second visit.
- Note: each reservation is a separate booking with its own 6-guest max. If your party is 7+ you need to split into multiple bookings either way.
Getting there
Osaka
Take any Midosuji line train to Shinsaibashi station. Use exit 4 or 5 to come up directly into Daimaru's basement. Take the elevators or escalators to floor 9. The cafe entrance is along the north end of the floor — there's a sign that's hard to miss. The address: 1-7-1 Shinsaibashisuji, Chuo-ku, Osaka.
Tokyo
Nihonbashi station served by 3 lines (Ginza, Tozai, Toei Asakusa). Exit B4 is closest. From there it's a 2-3 minute walk into the Takashimaya S.C. East Building (separate from the main Takashimaya department store). The cafe is on the 5th floor. The address: 2-11-2 Nihonbashi, Chuo-ku, Tokyo.
Common questions
Can I walk in without a reservation?
Osaka does accept walk-ins when seats are available — Tokyo is strictly reservation-only. So if you're flexible and willing to risk a turn-away on a busy day, walking up to the Osaka cafe at Daimaru Shinsaibashi 9F is worth a try (especially on weekday afternoons). Same-day cancellations can also appear on the booking site until 22:00 JST the night before — that path works at both locations.
Is the menu the same at both cafes?
Mostly the same standing menu, but each location runs different limited-time items. As of May 2026 the Tokyo reopening menu features a Gengar Smoothie (1,265 yen) and other new items not available in Osaka.
What's the dress code?
Neither cafe has a dress code. Cosplay is OK as long as it doesn't interfere with seating. Photo etiquette: photograph your own food/table freely. Avoid photographing other guests or staff faces.
How far in advance should I plan?
Pokemon Cafe releases reservations 31 days before the visit date. Tokyo dates from 17 June 2026 onwards released in one wave on 17 May. Future dates (after the initial 3-week window) release one at a time, 31 days ahead, at 18:00 JST. If you want a specific date, mark your calendar for 31 days before, 18:00 JST.
What if I can't get a slot at 18:00 JST?
