The Pokemon Cafe in Nihonbashi, Tokyo reopened on 17 June 2026 after closing on 23 March for a renovation of just under three months. Here is what is actually new inside, what stayed the same, and how to get a seat now that it is open again.
The headline change is a dedicated show stage added in the middle of the cafe. During each sitting a roughly ten-minute participatory show, "Let's Make a Pika Pika Parfait," runs on that stage, and the tables are arranged on either side facing it. The Pikachu who leads it rotates between a Chef, a Waitress and a Pastry Chef look, so which one you see is a small surprise on the day.
There is also a "peek-in window" feature toward the back of the cafe where displayed Pokemon appear to look in, and which one shows up changes through the day.
The menu was refreshed around the reopening. A batch of long-running dishes was retired in early June 2026, and new themed plates and drinks were added. Reported new items include a Chocolate and Berry Pikachu Parfait, an Eevee fruit pancake, a Pikachu and Pichu curry plate, a napping Snorlax burger and a Mimikyu omelet. Exact dishes and prices shift over time, so treat any specific item as a snapshot rather than a fixed menu.
The renovated space leans into the cafe's anniversary year, with more Pokemon worked into the decor than the original fit-out. The booking system still uses lettered seat types rather than names you can pick:
Visitors often refer to the areas by Pokemon names (a Pikachu and Jigglypuff area, a Snorlax area, an Eevee area, and a Lapras counter), but those names are informal and are not part of the official booking. You cannot request a specific seat or zone, the cafe assigns it.
The first reopening dates (17 June to 31 July 2026) were released in two big batches before reopening and sold out fast, so for those dates a cancellation is the realistic way in. Because guests can cancel right up to 22:00 JST the night before, seats free up around the clock. From August onward, new dates open about a month ahead on the normal schedule.
That constant watching is exactly what CafeSnap does for you: you give us your preferred dates and party size, we watch the cafe for cancellations day and night until the day before your visit, and if we cannot land any of your dates you get an automatic full refund.
Flat £8 fee for the whole party. Full automatic refund if we can't book.
